Vacancy

 

DBA – DB2 and Oracle

 

Reporting to:                  Manager

 

Prime Purpose

Role requires administration and maintenance of production and development databases, review existing standards and propose improvements, identify & resolve performance bottlenecks.

Key Tasks

 

·         Provide design advice to the development and implementation teams.

·         Understand, recommend and implement security, high availability/resilience and backup strategies applicable to a 24*7 operational environment.

·         Design and implement highly scalable JEE database configurations.

·         Create, modify, administer and maintain both production and development databases, including User defined functions.

·         Use database analysis tools to identify performance bottlenecks in SQL queries and optimise schema and database configuration parameters for performance.

·         Responsible for the relationships with external product vendors in relation the database (IBM, ORACLE), including issue escalation, upgrades and strategy.

·         The role is responsible for developing and supporting the areas of: 

o   data quality and data integrity,

o   data movement,

o   data modeling, 

o   metadata repository implementation/management,

o   data/database standards,

o   database performance, monitoring and support.

·         Installing and configuring DB2 9.x on Windows, Linux and AIX platforms.

·         Installing and configuring Oracle 11g on Windows and Linux platforms.

 

Essential Attributes

 

·         A minimum of 6 years of DBA experience in DB2 (must) & Oracle (desirable).

·         Strong technical skills in DB2 Enterprise Edition and Oracle 11g Enterprise Edition Version skills

·         Experience of using JEE persistence frameworks (e.g. OpenJPA, Hibernate or TOPLink) with Oracle & DB2 databases and the demands and compromises in design that need to be considered

·         Tuning JEE database solutions

·         General understanding of XML, Java, HTML, PERL and EJB (desirable) and other software development tools

·         A commitment to quality and a thorough approach to work

·         Good communication skills
