SCHEME OF EXAMINATION
I. Preliminary Examination: The examination will consist of 150 multiple choice objective
type questions, carrying 150 marks, to be answered in two hours. The paper will contain 50
multiple choice objective type questions (50 marks) on General Knowledge including Indian polity,
law and governance, modern history, culture, economy, geography, role of science and technology
in development of India and current events of national and international importance; 50 questions
(50 marks) on Mental Ability, Graphs, Diagrams and simple Arithmetic; and remaining 50 questions
(50 marks) on General English including usages, vocabulary corrections, synonyms, antonyms,
idiomatic phrases, etc.
There will be negative marking for wrong answers i.e. for every three wrong answers, one
mark will be deducted. The marks secured by the candidates in the preliminary examination will not
be accounted for while preparing the final selection list.

* The paper will contain small and medium descriptive type of questions on Indian polity, modern
history, culture, heritage, economy, geography, law enforcement issues, environmental issues,
current events of national and international importance, developments in the field of science
and technology, communications and space, etc.
** Essay (100 marks), précis (50 marks), comprehension (50 marks) and grammar (100 marks).
*** Candidates will have to choose two subjects out of the following 12 Subjects:

Provided that the candidates will not be allowed following combinations of subjects :

All the papers will be of descriptive type. The question paper of ‘General Studies’ will be in
diglot form (i.e. in both English and Hindi). The candidates will have the option to answer this paper
either in English or in Hindi. The candidates will have to write all the answers in this paper either
in English or in Hindi. The answers to Paper-II to Paper-VI will have to be written in English only.
The Joint Recruitment Cell will have full discretion to fix the minimum qualifying marks in
each paper. Only those candidates who obtain the minimum qualifying marks in each paper and
aggregate will be called for personal interview.
III. Personal Interview: Personal Interview will carry 150 marks. Candidates will have to
qualify the Personal Interview at the requisite standards to be determined by Joint Recruitment
Cell.
Selection will be made on the basis of the overall performance of the candidates in the
Main Examination and the Personal Interview, subject to availability of vacancies.
