Job Overview
We are looking for Sybase DBA with experience in Oracle admin as well who if successful will work as part of the Investment Management Infrastructure team. The role will be primarily based in India , but will support both the India Investment development and global investment teams. He (/she) will be working for the London Infrastructure support management and will primarily be working on developing strategic vision and supporting the company’s databases and its interconnected framework e.g. monitoring, capacity, performance etc.
Key Responsibilities
This job requires an exceptional all rounder with expertise in design, development, implementation and support of Sybase databases and their associated software stacks. Duties would include liaising with development teams, setting standards, designing and implementing frameworks, liaising & working closely with Infrastructure teams (UNIX, Middleware, and Storage etc.)
The ability to convey ideas to senior level management within the Systems and Business groups is essential, as is the need to foster excellent relations with peers. The environment is fast moving; candidates must prove their ability at managing their work and delivering projects within agreed time scales. The candidate must also be able to work effectively with minimal supervision and must by highly flexible in their attitude to working practices and technologies to be implemented.
The successful candidate would be expected to -
· Work alongside the Sybase and Oracle DBA’s in India and London , with the UNIX support and developers
· Understand the concept of delivery. Ability to start and deliver a project within a tight deadline
· Pass knowledge to the generalist (UNIX support team) who provide first line of support
· Liaise with the development and other support teams to provide and maintain Sybase infrastructure
· Devise a practical strategy to add value to the business by means of streamlining and resolving the performance bottlenecks both at Server and code level.
· Take part in application software releases and be conversant with release management
· Be a strategic thinker. Ability to add value to the infra-structure team in terms of providing innovative solutions
· Be able to contribute effectively in designing robust, stable & scalable Sybase infrastructure
· To be able to implement technologies like ASE / REP SERVER 15, MSA replication & MDA based monitoring & analysis.
· The applicant must have 5+ years of experience as Sybase DBA and least 3+ years of working experience in an environment having complex replication setup using MSA .
· Must have handled database upgrades from 12.0/12.5.4 to version 15
· Responsible for providing 24x7 supports and out of hours call out Rota (On-call Support).
· Responsible for providing offshore support for application being developed and supported out of U.K/India.
· Responsible for providing and supporting business infrastructure solutions that include DR/HA and HA components for Sybase databases.
· Be a senior Technical resource for Infrastructure project and will include interaction at different levels and groups from planning to design to implementation & supporting infrastructure.
· Responsible for capacity planning, performance management & backups of Sybase infrastructure.
· Responsible for planning and implementing software patch and upgrades.
· Maintain appropriate standards and system security mechanisms.
· Build and maintain clear documentation describing environments and standards
· Be able to contribute in Sybase re-engineering i.e. should be able to contribute effectively in data migration projects from Sybase to Oracle. Previous knowledge/experience would be an added advantage.
· Knowledge in Oracle database administration would also be an added advantage.
Experience and Qualifications
Essential:
· Must have extensive experience as a core Sybase DBA and must have excellent skills in database administration
· Must have extensive experience in setting up replicated env using different techniques, MSA replication is a must.
· Good experience as a technologist with ASE /REP Server. The focus is on version 15
· Good working knowledge of MDA tables, their application to performance monitoring and their limitation
· Ability to systematically identify the performance bottlenecks at both the code and server level
· Good understanding of table and indexing strategies
· Good working experience of Replication server (12.6-15), publication and subscription, and MSA (focus on MSA )
· Working experience in upgrading ASE / REP SERVER versions to 15.
· Experience or knowledge of Solaris skills and SAN storage.
· Must be willing to work and support on different technologies like Oracle. Prior experience on working on Oracle database administration would be an added advantage.
· Must have 5+ years experience in providing 24*7 support to business critical production environments
· B.E./B.Tech. or M.C.A. in Computer Science from a reputed University
Desirable
· Additional DBA skill set (Oracle 10g / 11g preferred). 2+ years of practical experience on Oracle would be a plus.
· Working experience on Sybase to Oracle migration projects would be an added advantage
· Good knowledge and understanding of networking & storage (SAN ) technologies
